Ohara Area (Sanzen-in,Jako-in)
-
- Sanzen-in Temple is the main attraction in Ohara, a lovely village just north of Kyoto known for its pickled cucumbers and its proud maintenance of tradition.
- The temple is justly famous for its large garden where an old wooden sub-temple sits in what looks like a still sea of green moss, penetrated by a few tall cedars and carefully-placed rocks and shrubs.
- Jakko-in Temple is a convent with a long history. Located north of Kyoto near the village of Ohara, the temple is secluded and the grounds are very quiet. Worn stone steps lead between a stand of old, thick trees en route to the front gate. There is a slight air of melancholy that pervades the place, which may be explained by its part in a sad history.
- Sanzen-in is famous also for a cherry tree and a hydrangea.

- A "hydrangea garden" is located in the inner shrine, and it is dotted while 3000 or more stocks of hydrangeas are mixed with a Japan cedar grove.
